Skydive Suffolk in Virginia is participating in an event at the Virginia Beach Patriotic Festival and is looking for skydiving volunteers. This is the “Jumping for a Purpose” event that is meant to raise awareness for veteran organizations.
Specifically, this event sponsors the Combat Wounded Coalition and will take place on Saturday, June 3, during Warrior Week. The skydiving event will be going on for four hours from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. that day.
Wounded Warriors will be skydiving onto the beach in Virginia Beach, and there is limited space available. Skydivers may participate by tandem jumping or solo skydiving.
Tandem skydiving is highly recommended for first timers. A certified skydiving instructor will be attached securely to the back of the volunteer by a harness. After a short, approximately 10 minute airplane ride, the green light will turn on signifying that it is time to jump. The tandem instructor will launch the duo out of the plane and into the air.
This is a very safe form of skydiving as all of the responsibility falls onto the instructor. The novice skydiver will only need to enjoy the ride. Maneuvering during the 45 seconds of free falling will all be done by the instructor. It is also the instructor who will deploy the parachute at the correct altitude, pilot the canopy during the slow descent, and land safely down onto the beach.
Tandem skydivers at the Virginia Beach Patriotic Festival can jump for only $399. Volunteers will also receive a T-shirt and lunch with the Wounded Warriors.
Skydivers who already have a C-license or above can participate for just $100. This also includes an event T-shirt and lunch with the Wounded Warriors. Certified skydivers may jump solo during the event, if they so choose.
Warrior Week takes place during the summer, making it the perfect time of year to experience skydiving.
