Have you ever dreamed of skydiving? If so, there’s no need to be afraid, because the certified instructors at Skydiving.com Rochester affiliate dropzones can take you up in the plane and bring you back down safely. And if you’ve made the decision to take this huge step in your life, let Skydiving.com Rochester help you achieve your lifelong goal. As a matter of fact, we recommend that you purchase the most popular option, the Tandem skydiving package. Although this is the most expensive package at any dropzone (apart from a full advanced training course), the experience you gain while connected to a Tandem instructor is well worth the extra cost. A Tandem jump is one in which you will spend a few intense moments, up close and personal, with a highly trained Tandem Jumpmaster.
When we say up close and personal, we mean that you are connected to the Tandem master by a harness. It is important to pay special attention to the initial training tutorial, which will explain all the rules and important safety information you’ll need to know, before we send you sailing out of the plane with your instructor. Tandem skydivers usually jump from an altitude of ten thousand to fifteen thousand feet. Although this altitude seems pretty high at first, you won’t even notice it once you take the plunge into the wide open air. After you and your Tandem master jump out of the airplane, you’ll experience an intense, breathtaking moment of free fall! However, seconds after you begin falling from the plane, your Tandem master will release a small parachute, called a drogue parachute, so that you can fall at the same speed as the videographer. If you have chosen a video package upgrade, the videographer will film you throughout the jump, so that you can show the world your skydive in real time.
Once you drop below a certain altitude, the Tandem master will deploy the main parachute, which measures approximately 360 square feet, in order to hold the combined weight of the passenger and the Tandem master. Your free fall will shift into a slow drift to the ground, which will last about five to seven minutes. Take a moment to enjoy the most amazing view of your life, while feeling a sense of sheer excitement!
Your instructor will teach you how to safely exit the plane, perform fancy maneuvers while in free fall, and at what altitude the main parachute should be released, while taking full responsibility for releasing the parachute in a safe and timely manner. When you meet your instructor for the first time, don’t be surprised if you don’t remember his or her name after the jump, because during the process, you’ll forget everything but the thrill of the dive itself! You’ll definitely want to have a video to post all over your social media channels to show your friends and family your first skydive.
Along with the drogue and the main parachutes, the Tandem harness is also equipped with an Automatic Activation Device (AAD), which instantly deploys the reserve parachute if it detects that you and your Tandem master are still sailing toward the earth at free fall speed after reaching a certain altitude. The AAD is only used in an emergency. However, your Tandem master will make check to ensure that your free fall is safe and secure, before taking you up into the air.
The Tandem jumps are the most popular package, because first time skydivers can get the thrill of the free fall, without having to monitor their altitude or know when to release the parachute. After your Tandem jump, you have the option to take your skydiving training to the next level. Let our friendly skydiving experts answer any questions you may have about your Tandem skydive, no matter how simple or complex. We’ll be availablee to talk through the entire process. You can even stay at the drop zone after the jump, and talk to other first time skydivers and experienced jumpers alike. These discussions are all a part of your post free fall celebration. Here’s where you can share your experience and ask skydiving connoisseurs to share their own experiences. These experts can give you answers to any questions you have, and you can do the same for the first timers at the drop zone. Come to one of the best dropzones in the US and take the wildest, most exciting ride of your life, and give your courage and confidence a boost today! You’ll be glad you did!
If you thought the Tandem jump was fun, you’ll want to take your skydiving experience to the next level with an advanced skydiving training course. In order to be certified by the United States Parachute Association (USPA), to skydive solo, you’ll need to attend skydiving school at one of over 80 skydiving centers in our Skydiving.com affiliate network. All trainers are USPA certified, and they will be there to guide you through each level of your Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) course.
Each level of the AFF training is designed to ensure accuracy and safety during your solo jump. AFF training starts in the classroom, where you’ll learn the proper skydiving procedures, rules, and other handy little tips and tricks. From there, you work your way up into the air, where you’ll take your first jump with two instructors at your side. Once you’ve passed the exams at each level, eventually you’ll be able to jump with only one instructor, unless you feel the need to have a second instructor with you. If at any time during your AFF training, you don’t feel confident enough to move to the next level, our trainers will be there to help you repeat any levels needed, to get you fully certified. Once you’ve become a USPA certified solo skydiver, you’ll have the opportunity to advance to the Accelerated Free Fall Certification course. This is just a taste of what you’ll learn when you enter into this intense training program. And our instructors will not rush you through the program, we want you to take your solo skydive as safely and as accurately as possible. Accelerated Free Fall training is one of two types of skydiving training you can participate in. The other type, which is less widely used, is called Tandem Progression. No matter what training program you choose, Skydiving.com Rochester can tell you all about it so that you can make an educated decision. Skydiving doesn’t have to be a once in a lifetime adventure, you can take your experience to new heights at a skydiving school! If you have any questions about advanced skydiving training courses, our skydiving experts will be happy to help you when you call today.
There are two types of training at a Skydiving.com Rochester affiliate skydiving school. The first is the popular Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) training. This intensive training is the fastest means of experiencing free fall at altitudes of 10,000 to 15,000 feet. If you’re planning to attend Accelerated Free Fall training, here are the lessons you’ll need to take, in order to pass the course, and prove to your instructor that you are ready for your first solo jump:
Training on the ground
If you long to skydive solo, you’re going to need to know how to correctly deploy your parachute, so the best way to learn how to get it right starts in the classroom. Although this first step doesn’t sound as exciting as taking your first jump, the first five hours or so you spend on the ground will be the most important. This is where you learn the dos and don’ts about skydiving. For example, we’ll show you how and when to deploy your parachute and how to keep track of your altitude, so you’re not putting yourself in serious danger. Your instructor’s mission is to teach you how to land safely after you fling yourself out of the plane. For your first few jumps, two instructors will jump with you, and they will guide you via radio, while giving you hands-on instruction. Listen carefully to what your instructors tell you, and you’ll float to the ground like a pro!
Positioning is everything
You’ve proven to be a good listener in class, and you even took meticulous notes. However, all skydiving students need to practice the technique of refining their body position before taking their first dive. Although you’ll spend more time on the ground, you will be taking a flight that focuses on your body position. Yes, you’ll flail around a bit and look a little silly, but that’s okay, because we’ve all gone through this process to get where we are today.
Your first dive
This is the step, where your instructors send you sailing out of the plane for your first actual jump. During this jump, your trainers will continue to teach you about body position, and a few maneuvers you can do while making your way to the ground. The more enhanced techniques you’ll learn include diving straight down, moving forward, and making turns while in mid air. Your instructors will teach you these techniques over your radio, while being by your side, to make sure you can release your parachute at the proper time and altitude in order to land safely. Although this part of the training is more intense, here’s where the fun begins!
The final step
This jump is the biggest jump you’ll take with both instructors at your side. Here, you’ll learn how to make 90 degree turns while in the air. This maneuver is a big one! During this jump, your confidence level will take a huge boost! And if your instructors have confidence in your abilities, then you’ll be given the go ahead to jump with only one trainer. However, you make the call when you’re ready to advance to this level. If you feel you need more guidance with two trainers, they’ll be with you every step of the way. When you and your instructors are ready, it’s off to the next level.
Making a complete circle
Here’s where the dive gets even more challenging, because you’re maneuvering from 90 degrees, which is a quarter turn, to 360 degrees, which brings you around full circle. Your instructors will not release you to the next level until you get this maneuver right, because they want to make sure you can make a complete circle and come to a safe landing on the ground. It’s okay if you don’t feel like you’re flying through the course. Your professional trainers will not rush you through the important things you need to learn while in the air. The trainers will test your abilities. Once you’ve proven that you’re up to speed, you will be able to move to the next level.
This step is much harder because you’re putting the techniques you learned in the previous levels into practice, with less guidance. However, your trainer is there with you to make sure you can skydive and make all the special maneuvers you learned with ease. Think of this step as the Thursday in your skydiving week, and if you pass this level without a hitch, then you’ll make it to Friday, which is the final step!
It’s almost show time! Although you’ve made it to the finish, you’re not done learning. This is the step where you learn how to make turns, signaling, braking, and much more advanced tricks to skydiving. Here’s where you feel like a real hotshot, but don’t rub it in too much! Once you pass this test, then you’ll be able to sail through the air, and land back at the drop zone by yourself!
Do you long to take a solo skydive, but you’re still not sure that the sport is right for you? Do you have doubts about being able to make it through the Accelerated Free Fall training right away? Skydiving.com Rochester partners ofer a second (though much less used) training option, called Tandem Progression. This training method is called Tandem Progression because you will take three Tandem jumps with an instructor, learning a little bit of information, a little at a time, instead of huge chunks of information at one time. This training method is for those students who still want to take their free fall experience to another level, but aren’t confident enough to step into the Accelerated Free Fall training.
Before you make your first jump, you must attend a “ground school”, where you’ll learn important emergency techniques to use while you are falling from the sky. Each Tandem jump will incorporate all the skills you learned on the ground. Your Tandem master will show you how to deploy your parachute and give you hands-on training to demonstrate the techniques you previously learned. On the final Tandem jump, you will make the jump with your skydiving instructor, but you will be doing all of the work. During this final jump, you are responsible for monitoring your altitude, deploying your parachute, and all the other emergency techniques you practiced during your first two jumps, under the supervision of your trainer. Once you and your instructor are ready, you will then proceed to the Accelerated Free Fall training. You may discover that the last Tandem jump gives you the boost of confidence and courage you need to take your skydiving experience to new heights!
Once you complete your first three Tandem jumps, you will be equipped with your own rig, and begin your training with two instructors, who’ll be there for you throughout the training you’ve always wanted. After you have completed your Tandem jumps and the Accelerated Free Fall course, you will make an advanced jump, where you can learn a few more fancy little tricks, such as backward and forward loops, while in free fall. An instructor is there if needed, but many students are jumping solo by this point in their training.
Please call 585-491-8002 and ask about Skydiving School!
Skydiving.com Rochester partners offer video packages as a very important upgrade to Tandem Skydives, Accelerated Free Fall training, and Tandem Progression training packages as well. If you want your friends to see you fling yourself out of an airplane, either with or without an instructor, do fancy little tricks in the air, and do all this while making a safe landing back at the drop zone, then you’ll want to purchase a video package. If not to have as proof of your jump for yourself, then purchase a video to show off your new sport to your friends and family!
When you purchase the videographer package, the videographer will dive with you and your instructor, unless you’re certified to skydive solo. This person films the entire process, from the moment you board the plane, to the dive itself, and even the after-jump celebration. This package is the top of the line video package. If the videographer package isn’t in your skydiving budget, there is a less expensive video package.
This package is called the GoPro package, because the Tandem master wears a GoPro camera and films the jump from a close perspective. This package is perfect for the Tandem and Tandem Progression packages, as you’ll go skydiving while harnessed to a Tandem master. All videos are professionally edited by a select section of the staff dedicated to editing at the drop zone. Once you receive your video, you can post it all over your social media sites, so that the world can see your free fall in action. You’ll be so proud of your dive that you’ll want to show your friends and family the jump video over and over again.
When you call to book your skydiving appointment, whether it’s your first Tandem jump, your first solo jump, or anything in between, our knowledgeable and friendly skydiving experts will be happy to tell you about the video packages you can purchase. We’ll be happy to help you decide which video package is right for your jump and your budget. Don’t think twice about purchasing a video with your skydiving package, because it’s the only way you can go back and relive the exhilarating moments when you fell from the sky and glided back to the ground unharmed! Besides, you’ll have the evidence to show your friends, so you can celebrate the experience for the rest of your life!
Do you have a friend or family member who seems to have everything? If you don’t know what to get that special someone in your life, why not give the gift of a Tandem skydive to him or her? Why not take a friend with you, so that he or she can share the thrill of free fall with you! If your loved one has already taken his or her first Tandem dive, then the Accelerated Free Fall training will be the perfect gift for him or her.
You and your friend or family member can participate in the AFF training together, and talk about the entire process with experienced divers and first timers alike. It’s time to be brave and live on the edge, by participating in and thoroughly enjoying a sport that nobody thought you’d ever try, all while taking someone along for the ride!
