The Boone County Airport hosted an event for the K-6 Harrison Public Schools Summer Program, which was attended by State Helicopter Troopers Matt Ritchie and Bobby Clemence last week.
This year, the Harrison Rotary Club and the Boone County Regional Airport will hold the 22nd Annual Arkansas Hot Air Balloon Championship from September 8 to10 giving residents a chance to participate in various flying activities.
According to the Harrison, AK, website, “This unique outdoor event that began in 1995 is held in beautiful downtown Harrison, Arkansas. The Festival will kick off on Friday evening with the Hare and the Hound Balloon Race. Saturday evening events will begin with balloons tethered to the ground for the exciting balloon glow. Tethered rides are offered for $5 a person on Saturday evening this year. The event will continue through Sunday with several Balloon Race Competitions for all to enjoy. Come experience the Hot Air Balloon Adventure with us. Bring your kids, your cameras, and your lawn chairs for some great family fun.”
On Friday, September 8, the Hare and Hound Balloon Race will depart from the airport at 6 p.m. The event will also include a free concert after the balloon launch, as well as a beer and wine garden, and food trucks.
On Saturday, September 9, the town will host a CASA Run, Walk or Fly Superhero 5K and a Kid’s 1K Fun Run at 8:30 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony at 9 a.m.
Ozarks Sky Dive will provide tandem skydiving for 30 jumpers for a $500 donation to the Rotary Foundation between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Reservations can be made at (870) 715-9904.
The General Aviation Fly-In will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. An FAA Safety Seminar will also be available for pilots at 1 p.m., followed by a static showcase of airplanes, helicopters, cars and motorcycles from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Several groups will host activities for families, which include an adoption drive with the Ozark Humane Society, the McDonald’s Children’s Stage, finger painting and face painting, as well as massages. Photographers will be on hand for pictures.
Southern Airways Express will display a plane and pilot, and will feature giveaways and drawings, as well as an Express Pass.
Home Depot will sponsor construction projects for kids from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m.
Food trucks and arts and crafts vendors will be available starting at 9 a.m., selling barbecue, sandwiches and snow cones.
Attendees can also enjoy a police and fire department display and fingerprinting at a mobile command center.
After 3 p.m. the event will move to the soccer fields for hot air balloon tethered rides and the CASA Kids Fest, which will include food, bouncy houses and pony rides, among numerous other activities.
