In the world of skydiving, Vertical Wind Tunnels are far more familiar with enthusiasts than the name Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards. However, Eddie’s name is quickly getting around the community as well as the world. As an avid thrill seeker, he’s already made his name and with the 2016 release of the move Eddie the Eagle, starring Hugh Jackman, his name is becoming a familiar one everywhere.
Eddie Edwards represented Britain as an Olympic ski-jumper in the eighties in which he broke a world record while being the country’s first Olympian in the sport since the 1920s. But recently, Ubisoft issued a challenge to “test extreme winter sports fans” by asking them to “play whilst balancing themselves in mid-air”. Of course, the best way to do that these days is by Indoor Skydiving using a vertical wind tunnel. What is this game? The extreme winter sports game “Steep.”
“I couldn’t wait to give it go,” said Edwards. “I love a challenge but this was unlike anything that I’d ever tried before. As soon as I started playing, I was determined to glide past that finishing line.”
Senior PR Manager at Ubisoft Tom Goldberger had this to say about Eddie: “When we first developed the concept of playing a videogame in a wind tunnel, we instantly knew that there was only one person that we could call to take on the Steep challenge. Along with being a British icon and an absolute gent, Eddie stunned us all by not only mastering the challenge, but landing himself in the medals table too.”
Steep releases on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on December 2, 2016. We here at Skydiving.com would be happy to help you find a vertical wind tunnel near you to play the game in… Well, if you have wings like Eddie The Eagle.
